Creating the Custom Homepage

To take full advantage of Practical, it is important to apply the custom homepage template. To do this, simply create a new page in WordPress called “Home.” Then apply the “Homepage” Page Template. Publish this post. Create a new page called “Blog” leaving the content area blank. Publish this post.

Next, visit the Settings > Reading screen, and where it shows “Front page displays:” Select “a static page.” For the Front Page select box, select the “Home” page. For the Posts Page select the “Blog Page.”

Important: If you are having trouble with this we’ve created a helpful video

Before you add content to the homepage, make sure you have properly set the other theme options.

Main Rotator

To add a slide to the main rotator, simply navigate to the “Rotator > Add New” screen. Here, fill out the body of the post (this is the text that will appear over the image), and upload a featured image. It is recommended that you use the template provided with the PSDs. A title is not technically needed.. Publish the post.

Features

Features can be added by navigating to the “Features > Add New” screen. Feature are used throughout the site to show of all the things your product offers.

The Title is what appears above the tab. The excerpt is what appears below the title. Add text to the content area to appear to the left when the feature is clicked. In the content area, you may use heading tags (such as h2) and shortcodes such as

.

To add an icon to the feature, use the WordPress media gallery to upload an image, and set it as the featured image.

Product Tour

The Product Tour is a slideshow of pictures and short snippets of text that appears on the homepage. To add items to the Product Tour slider, visit the “Product Tour > Add New” screen. Add a title, a small block of text in the body, and upload a featured image. Publish the post. You may add as many product tour items as you would like.

Testimonials

Testimonials appear on the homepage, but also if you use the Testimonials custom Page Template. To add a testimonial, simply visit the “Testimonials > Add New” screen.

Add a title to the Testimonial (usually the persons name). Then in the body section, add a description about the person. In the excerpt field, add a quote that person has said. Fill out the custom meta boxes to include extra things such as a citation source, and a link to a full case study about that person.
